My pal Sandra set the tone for the photos to come today with this great INXS T-shirt. She scored the lemon leather jacket in a swap with a friend. Isn’t the splashy floral lining an unexpected yet brilliant contrast with the studs and animal print? With her self-described “long mullet” and shades, all she needs now is a screaming guitar! I style-eyed Sandra the first time here.

Also on the inspiration walk today I found…

This regiment of chemical-white cowboy hats lined the steps of Vancouver Art Gallery as part of a promotion for the Calgary Stampede. The woman in the jeans with the mic said that Calgary has been trying to dispel cowboy stereotypes in recent years… I’m not sure if these hats are the right way to go, but I love this arty installation.

And…

This whimsical car antenna reminded me of those “Thanks for the Brake” signs of a waving hand on the back of city buses to thank motorists for allowing them to merge into traffic. This one is much better, and I would like to see this baby wave in a queenly fashion.

Roar. That’s some shirt! He bought it at a shop in Tokyo. The cool pants, which appeared to be made of a heavyweight fleece, are by a German designer. I like the straps hanging down – I’m not sure if they are sewn-in suspenders or they were made to hang down. Who cares? Note the studs on his high-tops too. I found out that this man is a fashion designer and he flashed me a cool brass ring he designed with spikes sticking out. His name is Yasuhiro Tomita and you can find his work at Rukus.

She has Seen the Light

I know this woman from my mornings out and she looked so fabulous today I couldn’t resist some photos. She studied fashion design for a while and is a talented creator: the men’s T-shirt she is wearing she customized by altering the neckline, tying the shoulder, and hand-stitching on red sequins, see photo below. (She has another great hand-sequinned T-shirt of the Port Alberni water bombers.) The bag she sewed from a pattern given to her by a friend, before the days of laptop carriers, and she added red satin criss-cross lacing on the flap, zippers, and animal print lining. Heavenly.
