This woman has so much going on: the wool and knits and canvas, leather, silver. What surprised me most was the stone – a polished piece of aragonite beams from her forehead, suspended by a leather cord. The circular shape is reflected in her great heavy silver earrings. Beautiful feathers frame her face, but they are difficult to distinguish from her Easy Rider hair, which also is adorned with colourful objects – I’m not sure what, but the effect is very cool. She bought the bag in Mexico. (photo Feb 15)

This woman breezed past at the corner of Nelson and Hornby, leaving behind the blurred image of a scarlet feather headpiece and a zebra print splashed with yellow. I had to catch up…  Her playful bag and bold red gloves add even more zest. What I find most interesting is how her shoes and hairstyle seem to cast a 1940s air on the ensemble.

The Eyes Have It

eyes, feathers, hat

I won’t forget these eyes for a long, long time. Absolutely stunning! In these days leading up to Halloween I certainly don’t want to risk mistaking a costume for daily wear or daily wear for a costume (even worse) so cautiously I asked this man if this is the kind of style he wears every day. Sadly, no; it’s a Halloween inspiration. His exuberance of colour and fashion derring-do are exhilarating though, something I would like to see more of. He asked me if I was going to dress up for Halloween – I had to answer, with a smirk, “I dress up every day,” and resisted adding “darling” at the end of my sentence. This Vancouverite is studying hairstyling and has an interest in fashion and makeup artistry. Check up the eye closeup below. I’m kicking myself for not getting a separate shot for better clarity and wow factor.
